Where is Your Audience Hiding?

When it comes to selling your product or service, if you don’t know where your market audience is hiding, then your odds are stacked against you.

Have you paid for adverts, and nothing ever amounted from it, you were spending your hard-earned cash to get in front of your audience, but no one ever engaged or bought your product or service.

 Why did this happen?

Perhaps you even thought about giving up, maybe you weren’t cut out for this? Maybe you weren’t as good as your competitors?

There are a lot of maybes out there, but let me ask you this…

Who is your audience? Your target market? Your dream client? The person whose life improves because of your business.

If you say everyone is your audience… sorry to break it to you, but they’re not.

If you don’t know who your audience is, then you need to work it out, before going any further.

Check out my blog, Why you Should Choose a Niche, to help you narrow it down and help you design your target market avatar.

If you know who your audience is, then let’s continue.

Your target market is the only person you should be advertising to, not the whole world.

When creating any content or marketing campaign, said avatar should be at the forefront of your mind. Anyone else who engages with your product is simply a bonus.

You need to know who your avatar is? What their values are? Their passions, their dreams? Do they have hobbies? What do they do for fun? What social media pages do they follow, which hashtags? Etc.

Once you’ve unlocked this… you’ve unlocked the secret to where your target market is hiding and it’s vital to your success that you meet them there.

How? Simple, get in front of them, where they already are. Don’t wait for them to come and find you.

Having created your target market avatar, you know everything about them and more importantly where they spend time, in person or online. So this is where you approach, advertise and promote to them, in the locations they already spend their time and money. Just make sure it’s relevant.

e.g.

Perhaps you make & sell dog collars.

So your target market are dog owners. Now, most people buy their dog a collar when they first adopt their dogs.

So one approach you could take is promoting your dog collars on the websites and social media of breeders, dog adoption agencies, and shelters. This is a great way to ensure you are getting in front of an audience who would be wanting to buy your product.

You could also try different dog lovers’ forums. Vet clinics. Dog specific Facebook groups and lost and found dog pages - maybe one of the benefits of using your collars is that they have a tracking chip, they’re high visibility or have something on there that would prevent your dog from getting lost, making this your perfect audience.

Now you could use paid advertising on these sites, or you could post for free on their social media group if their individual guidelines allow for you to do so.

Another great way is to build a connection with the owner of a website/business that has a related market base and see if they allow for backlinks on their website, to link to your account, or if they will let you advertise on their site for a small fee. They may even be willing to stock your product in their store.

You could try collaborating with an influencer or a business that directly relates to your product.

Or even consider attending markets, adoption weekends, or charity events (e.g. million paws walk") in your local area.

These are all great ways to build your audience and target market, by getting in front of them, in locations they may already be. Or by using someone else’s audience to jump start your own, which can prove equally beneficial to both parties. This in turn, gets your product out there where it can be easily found by the right people. Your people.

Until next time,
