3 Reasons Why Backlinks are Important for SEO and Discoverability
Backlinks are links on a website, that direct traffic to another. They are a great way to have your website discovered by new online traffic through a mutually beneficial connection.
Search engines favour backlinks from authoritive and trustworthy websites from the same industry. So don’t think you can just add backlinks to just any website to generate traffic. You can, but it won’t be as impactful and can come across as spammy and potentially have the opposite effect of the desired outcome. Likely increasing your bounce rate, as said traffic won’t stick around because your website or product is irrelevant to them.
An example of a good backlink would be if you have a website that sells one product, and you include backlinks to another website that has a complimentary product, something that will add value to your offer, not take away from your sales and not be completely irrelevant. This would be a mutually beneficial link for both companies. Especially if one or both of you are a reputable brand.
Building a strong and diverse backlink portfolio, is a key component when creating a successful SEO strategy.
Backlinks help to improve your website rankings.
Having backlinks to your website from another site, is like giving your website a vote of confidence. It’s a big green light for a search engine to know that your website adds some sort of value and that someone else is willing to vouch for it.
There are millions of websites being built every year, so in order to stand out from the crowd, and in order to prove that your website has information, products or services that can help people, having backlinks is a strategic way to improve your chances of being found and will increase your ranking in search engines.
You are essentially helping the search algorithms refine their search, by proving to them you are trustworthy, rather than making them do all of the work themselves. Plus it can give you the upper hand if your competitors aren’t doing the same.
Backlinks send referal traffic to your website.
If you have a backlink on another business’ site, you have the opportunity to be seen by their audience, who otherwise may have never known that you exist. Helping your business to be discovered by new people, and new potential customers or clientele.
Gives you more chances to be discovered through SEO.
The key feature of SEO is your keywords, and where you will rank in accordance to the relevance of the search terms people use on a search engine.
But like a drop in the ocean your website is only one, in a never-ending potential number of listings on the internet. Through the use of backlinks, you can extend your reach by showing up for not only your website, but through others websites as well. This results in you having a higher chance of being discovered by the right people.
The more trustworthy your website becomes, due to all of this added approval, the higher the chances of you showing up in the search engines for your chosen SEO keywords as well.
So if you are wanting to boost your SEO and discoverability, having backlinks on other websites is a great way to improve your potential.
